Parts of Speech

My class has really been struggling with the classification of nouns, verbs, and adjectives. We made lists of our favorites in each category and then decorated bubble letters with words from the categories. (Well, not adjectives - that word is just tooooo long!)

Noodles for punctuation

Today we used pasta to work on punctuation. The short cut spaghetti worked really well as quotation marks, commas, and apostrophes!

Homophones

Last week my class was studying homophones.
I had everyone in the class make at least two sets of pears for our Pair of Pears Homophone tree!

Plural Nouns

The English language can be so tricky! Making nouns plural can be one of those challenging skills to master. The class really enjoyed illustrating and categorizing the spelling words for the week - which were all plurals.

Thanks to Doris at Third Grade Thinkers8 for this great idea!

Brotherhood

After learning about Martin Luther King, Jr. my class made a brotherhood wreath. We displayed the wreath in the hallway for all to see.

Thanks to artsy_momma at Handprint and Footprint Art  for the inspiration for this project.

My new adventure . . .

Welcome to my new adventure! I have totally fallen in love with Pinterest and have spent far too much time admiring all those wonderful blogs out there! I am amazed that teachers have the time . . . and energy . . . to keep their blogs up to date. I so appreciate all the helpful ideas those teachers have shared as well.

Honestly, I don't want to be outdone so I am going to give this blogging thing a try.

Please bear with me as I learn to blog about the ideas and projects I am trying in my third grade classroom.
